“Ever since I can remember I have been making collages”, says artist Kirstin Foster (aka Jolene_Joe). “Most of the time I made them from images I found in magazines and I was heavily inspired by old school punk posters from the 1970s.” Beautifully Handsome, featured here, is a visual rebellion against gender norms and the intention behind this is clear.

“I want my art to speak, I almost want it to scream at you”, Kirstin says. “My aim [with this artwork] is to bring awareness to issues we face today; issues such as gender-based violence, equality, hate towards the LGBTQ+ community. I want to break the ‘norm’ and bring light to acceptance.”
3Q’s with Jolene_Joe :
My concept in 3 sentences is…
Create something wonderful (and end hate).

My message…
Whatever it may be that you identify as, whoever you choose to love, that is your choice. You have one life and it is up to you to be whoever it is that brings you the most happiness and fulfilment. You deserve to live a life worth living and no one should ever be able to change that. Your life your choice, do you boo. x

What’s next for me…
I hope to continue creating art that helps evoke change and hopefully do some collaborations along the way.
